WC 5th November – Bonfire Night

This week we enjoyed learning about bonfire night. We learnt how to stay safe around bonfires and fireworks. Fireman Sam helped us with some top tips.

We enjoyed watching the London fireworks and observing how they moved around the sky in time to music. We experimented with our own movements, making ourselves into firework shapes. After we had created a dance in pairs, we performed them to our friends.

We also enjoyed creating bonfire art. We used different materials to create firework patterns.

We carried our firework learning into our maths counting. We counted to the right amount and found more and fewer than a number by sticking stars, stamping and painting.

Super number writing

This week we have been very busy recognising and counting our numbers. We have been very careful with our counting.

We enjoyed carrying out our river jobs (learning jobs that connect to the specific maths or literacy learning for the week). When we complete a job, we get a special sticker.

We have also been busy writing our numbers. We practised them carefully and we were proud when we could write them all.

Autumn Stay and Play

This week in Rowan Class, we welcomed our adults to join us in our learning. We showed them how we learn phonics and they got to meet Fred, our blending puppet.

In our outside area, we practised writing the new sounds that we had learnt using different media. We used paint, chalk, water tooth brushes and crayons. As we wrote we said our letter hook.

We loved showing them around our classroom and showing them how we do independent learning.

WC 17th September

This week in Rowan Class we have been busy thinking about our topic ‘all about me’.

We painted our faces with Mrs Hewings for our classroom display. We were very careful to look in the mirror and colour match our features.

We also made our own faces using the transient art and our own bodies and clothes using the dolly pegs. We learnt about being kind friends and how to look after others. We talked about how we are all different and all special. We listened carefully to each other about how we are special and about the things that make us who we are.

We read the story of Elmer and learnt about how difference is great. We then made very careful colourings of Elephants thinking of our own patterns.

Our first week in Rowan Class

Last week was our first week in Rowan Class.

We have made lots of new friends and played games that helped everyone to get to know each other. We have explored our classroom and had a go at being independent learners in the environment.

We learnt lots. We learnt how to come into school in the mornings, how to put on our slippers and our wellies and where they need to be kept. We learnt about all the different things that happen in Rowan Class, like ringing the bell and wiggling our fingers. Some of us had a go at being the special helper.

We created our Rowan Class rules together and sprinkled our own magic sand onto them to show that we will follow them. Mr Wolf wasn’t quite sure of our rules, so we have spent time showing him how to follow them.

Aliens come to Rowan Class

This week we had an alien visit Rowan Class.

We read the story ‘Aliens love Underpants’. We thought they might come of no one was around so we hid outside. They came and kept on stealing our addition number sentence pants. We wrote messages to them asking them to come out.

When we came in from outside we found him. We had to look after him as he was feeling a little bit shy. Eventually he told us that he needed our help in describing some new planets. We used good adjectives.

Adriana made a ‘Alien Tracker’.

Cultural Champion

Last Friday Sandhya Daley came into Rowan Class. She taught us about Hinduism. We listened carefully to the stories surrounding the different Gods. She brought in lots of interesting objects for us to look at and beautiful cloths for us to try on. She sang to us in her lovely voice and we learnt some of the chants. We wished each other well.
